What is the Super Visa?

The Super Visa is temporary resident permit that is available to international visitors who have family in Canada.

For parents & grandparents of permanent residents & citizens of Canada

Allows visitors to stay in Canada for up to 2 years per visit without
renewal

Remains valid for up to 10 years
after it is issued

To be eligible for a Super Visa, visitors must:

  • be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada (more info)
  • get a letter of financial support from their child or grandchild in Canada, who meets the minimum required income (more info)
  • show proof that they have obtained private medical insurance valid for a minimum of one year

Super Visa Insurance Requirements

In order to obtain a Super Visa, visitors to Canada must have private medical insurance. The insurance must:

  • Be valid for a minimum of one year

  • Come from a Canadian insurance company

  • Cover health care, hospitalization and repatriation

  • Provide a minimum coverage of $100,000

  • Be valid for each entry to Canada

  • Be available for review by a port of entry officer

Up to $150,000 in Emergency Medical Insurance

Covers for unexpected emergency healthcare costs when travelling – such as treatment by a physician, hospital stays, and diagnostic tests.

Up to $50,000 in
Travel Accident
Insurance

Travel Accident insurance is included with the purchase of Emergency Medical Insurance and covers for accidental bodily injury that can occur during stays in Canada.

Benefits

  • If an accidental bodily injury causes the insured to die, to become completely and permanently blind in one or both eyes or to have one to two limbs fully severed above the wrist or ankle joints, within 365 days of the accident, insurer will pay $25,000 to $50,000
  • If the insured has more than one accidental bodily injury during the trip, insurer will pay the applicable insured sum only for the one accident that entitles the insured to the largest benefit amount.

Up to $1,500 (single) $5,000 (family) Trip Interruption Insurance

Trip interruption coverage is optional and includes reimbursement of a prepaid portion of the trip that is non-refundable and non-transferable to another travel date.
